He took my innocence and walked away...
But The Mistake is one I never saw coming
The story of how it all began?
We'll have to go back 10 years...
Preston Laurence was the king of my world.
Breathtakingly handsome and the son of a powerful family.
I was the bookworm, the daughter of the "hired help".
Safe to say I was unremarkable in comparison.
My family lived on the Laurence estate.
And my first mistake?
Falling for a boy I could never have.
Loving him was my little secret.
I never intended for things to get so out of hand.
Now I’m carrying something more than unexpected.
The only question left is…
Do I give him another chance?

"*Spoliers ahead*
This book is right in the middle of the spectrum - it's not over-the-top great, but it's definitely a big step up from bad. The things I liked about it:
1. It's got a good pace - the story moves along and doesn't linger too long on one thing.
2. The characters are happy and reasonably well-developed, although lacking in some depth.
3. It has a happy ending!
The things I didn't like about it:
1. The love story is really simplistic and contrived. They've been apart for years, he just suddenly thinks of her and then secretly hires her for a random party he put together, then the next day they're kissing and going everywhere together? Too perfect. There's no excitement or angst about what has changed with the other, or what it means for their respective businesses. And why now? She's been back on the island for at least 3 years, according to the story. If he was still so infatuated with her why didn't he go see her during the previous two Christmases he was home? The suddenness makes it a little unbelievable for me.
2. There's no real conflict for the main characters to overcome. The story never made me feel like they might not get back together, or anything other than I was just reading past some fluffy filler until they got back together again.
3. The secondary plot of finding the Kleinfelder's long lost daughter was rather flat, and confusing. A little more explanation of the relationships between the characters would have made it easier to follow. A brief description would have been enough to keep me interested, but as is I found it difficult to read through the process and the reveal at the end because I couldn't understand the relationship between some of the key characters.
4. Where's the description of Magnolia Falls? I was very interested in the setting but I never got a good look at it. Pieces and parts of the island just kind of appeared into existence when the characters went there. It was never laid out at all to show the size of the island, the places in relation to each other, the description of more of the traditions/laws on the island (why no cars??) It was frustrating to like the setting so much but not be able to find out more about it. More description was needed.
5. The time line of the pregnancy jumped too much. It would have been better to either do a narrative of the description of time passing (ie, "As her belly grew, her business did as well. She often thought about calling Preston but never did, although she knew she should soon as her due date fast approached...") Simple and straightforward, and still keeps the reader engaged. Instead of jumping fill force into the story again at several points along the pregnancy. Nothing really happened in those spots anyways.
Overall, it's a good fluff book for light reading if you don't want to pay much attention to the story and not get very invested in characters. I've read other books by this author and they're really good, this one just isn't on that same caliber."

The Mistake Magnolia Falls Book 2 edition by RS Lively Romance eBooks Reviews
- Everything went wrong with this RS Lively book. Blurb makes it sound like a LJ Shen ripoff. It's actually so much worse. Confusing story that tries way too hard to be cute and funny. I couldn't make heads or tails of what the conflict was supposed to be between Preston and Victoria and their parents. All over the place with big leaps in time. Flat predictable writing and editor needed. Badly. Can't even count all the typos and grammar mistakes. I couldn't stand it. It's the exact same story done a thousand times by better writers and without the terrible quality. Hard pass.

I've read other books by this author and they're really good, this one just isn't on that same caliber. - Another entertaining and romantic read! Victoria and Preston share some past history and when they meet again, one kiss sets off a chain reaction of emotions and events that will leave you wanting more. Excellent characters and story!
Final Rating 5 Stars - Loved this book! I could not stop reading it and you won’t either! Get it get it get it!
- Victoria is my least favorite character. I like her at first but she is a hypocrite and immature. She is selfish, ungrateful, etc...And, Preston is too forgiving and has no need to apologize. All of this forgiving on Preston's part happened too fast
- I absolutely enjoyed reading this book very much. I certainly hope there are more books to come in the series.
- Good to know Grant, Emma, Preston & Victoria were able to solve the mystery of Neil & Eleanor’s baby. All is well for everyone involved in this love story. Really enjoyed reading it. I couldn’t put it down
- I am really enjoying the people of Magnolia Falls. Preston and Victoria's story was very unique and emotional. I can't wait for more books from Magnolia Falls.
